Frosty Catcher
Frosty is my mom's dog, a
little white Bichon
Frisee',
who
is the guardian of the property and loves to
chase off intruding
animals - moose, blue heron, and geese. He
would chase the geese off
the lawns and on into Webber Pond and proceed to swim after
them.
Fearing he may be attacked by the geese or
drown from exhaustion,
even though he has web feet
and is bred to swim, my mom would trek
down to the pond, climb
into her rowboat and row out to catch Frosty-
hence the
Frosty Catcher.
See Frosty below in the following pen and ink/watercolor.

THE
FROSTY CATCHER
Lying
on the deck one sunny day,
I noticed some intruders
coming our way.
The geese are back; they are a persistent critter,
Coming to poop on our lawn with their
scrawny litter.
I'll sound the alarm and run to the rescue,
Over the
lawn covered with morning dew.
"Don't worry, Mom, everything's under control,
I'll get those
feathered beasts on my Frosty Patrol."
Into the
water I leap with a bound,
And off for the chase
following that horrible honking sound.
Barking and yapping and
telling them off.
"I'll
catch you and turn you into Goose Stroganoff!"
Oh, no, here comes Mom to
haul me home
In her Frosty Catcher with oars
sounding like a metronome.
I must get those geese before she gets me.
"I can do it, Mom, you'll see!"
Faster I swim, I'm starting to gain
On the big feathered
feisty birdbrain.
Ugh!
"Oh, Mom, you spoiled my attack, you saboteur!
I was going in for the
kill for your soup du jour.
Now look! They're
getting away,
Only to return
another day."
Might as well give a shake before I catch a chill.
"Don't yell,
okay, okay, I'll sit and be still.
Can I give you a kiss for being my
chauffeur,
as you row me home in my Frosty Catcher?
No? Okay,
I'll just sit here and rest.
I love you, Mom. You
are the best."

(the Bichon) to Mom

Hide 'N' Seek
Frosty
loves to romp in the high grass fields surrounding his home.
Sometimes you can't see him at all but only the movement of
the grasses
and
then he will pop his head up looking to see if you are nearby. Frosty
is one of my favorite subjects for painting, sculpting and poetry.
Read the poem above on this page about his adventures with the geese.

Going to Pot
For
me, onions are great subjects to paint, not to eat.
They
have great colors and subtle changes
in
values and textures to capture.
It is
a fun challenge to capture the translucency of the thin skin.
Garlic
is even better to eat as well as paint.

Island
Beauties
These
irises greeted me each morning
as I made my way to my painting sight.
Look and enjoy, but please don't pick them.

Monhegan Village
From
the top of the Island looking out over the marsh,
Monhegan
Village, the harbor and onto Manana Island is an
impressive view. When the mainland is
obscured by fog or surf,
there is a feeling of
smallness in the midst of the massive Atlantic ocean
that surrounds
the island. You can't help but sense the greatness of God.
